Agricultural Internships for Industry Partners
About
An agrifood internship is an opportunity for your organisation to work with the ANU’s most talented students to complete a valuable project for your organisation. You will provide a valuable learning experience to our students while gaining the chance to engage with fresh perspectives, skills, and ideas, evaluate future talent, and promote your business.
Host opportunity and responsibilities
There is no wage cost associated with hosting an intern at your business. The host will provide the intern with a supervisor for their project, office space if hosted onsite, and the resources and facilities they need to complete the work. The supervisor will oversee onboarding, set the intern’s tasks and responsibilities, and support the student’s learning goals throughout the internship.
Students work 90-189 hours at the host organisation. This equates to 1-2 days per week for around 3 months or can be completed in a block during semester breaks to align with the needs of your organisation.
The project and the student
The aim of the project is to develop the student while delivering real outcomes that your organisation may not currently have the capacity or skills to complete. Projects can range from research studies through to hands on technical work. The ANU will assist in tailoring your project to ensure that it meets the needs of your organisation while also providing the student with a valuable experience.
The internship program is available to later-year undergraduate and postgraduate students who have a distinction average across all courses. To ensure the best student is matched to your organisation, they can be sourced from those studying across all aspects of the agrifood sector including:
- Engineering - Aerospace engineering, Energy engineering, Environmental engineering, Information & signal processing, Mechatronics
- Computer science - Artificial Intelligence, Computational Theory, Computer Systems, Human-Centric Computing, Information-intensive Computing, Software Development
- Biology - Cell and Molecular Biology, Physiology, Genetics, Plant Science, Zoology
- Marketing - Consumer Behaviour, Marketing Communications, Export Business Planning, Strategic Marketing
- Economics - Econometrics, Strategy, Behaviour and Economics
- Policy and regulation - Public Policy, Social Policy, Environmental Policy
Due to the competitive nature of internship placements, the host organisation can interview and select their preferred candidates with assistance from the ANU.
How to get started / further information
Before the commencement of an internship, the host organisation will sign a Host Placement Agreement which includes clauses for insurance, IP-protection, and non-disclosures of confidential information. Before placement, an internship schedule will be completed, defining the nature of each project.
The Agrifood Innovation Institutes Agricultural Internships program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry through the AgConnections program. Read more about the program here.
