We are excited to announce the release of the white paper ‘Made & Grown - The Future of Food: The role of biotechnology & biomanufacturing in Australia’.

Jointly developed by Cellular Agriculture Australia, the ANU Agrifood Innovation Institute, the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, and the ANU National Security College, co-hosts in the amazing Made and Grown event, this paper showcases how biotechnologies are increasingly being applied across the food supply chains, provide value-added opportunities in traditional agriculture, and develop brand new food production systems.

Critically, the white paper positions emerging biotechnologies and biomanufacturing as Australia’s best and under-appreciated opportunity to strengthen Australia’s food security and national resilience, whilst also opening up substantial economic opportunities both nationally and in Australia’s regions.

The report cautions that whilst Australia has the potential to be a regional or global hub for food biotechnology and biomanufacturing, there are significant barriers impeding scale-up and commercialisation efforts in this nascent industry.

The report sets out 25 clear recommendations for the Australian Government and industry across four urgent priorities: policy settings, research & innovation, regulation, and infrastructure.

Thank you for taking part in the event, and we look forward to continuing the discussion with you to shape the future of food.
