About
Meredith Thomas joined AFII in July 2020 and has played a key role in supporting the Institute’s growth from its early days. As Executive Officer, she brings her strong background in administration, research support, and interdisciplinary collaboration to help drive AFII’s mission to connect research, innovation, and industry.
Holding a Bachelor of Music (Honours) from the University of Western Australia and a Bachelor of Medical Science from the Australian National University, Meredith’s career reflects a commitment to bridging disciplines and supporting transformative research.
She is particularly passionate about building large, interdisciplinary and multi-institutional funding bids that address major challenges in the agrifood sector. She also enjoys working with researchers to explore new ideas and foster collaboration through workshops and creative engagement activities.
Meredith believes AFII’s work is vital in encouraging deeply impactful research and innovation. By engaging widely across disciplines, sectors, and industries, AFII helps build the connections and capabilities needed to advance Australia’s agrifood future.
Outside of work, Meredith lives off-grid on a 240-acre bush property, where each day brings both challenges and moments of beauty. She values a life that combines creativity, problem-solving, and connection—at home and at work.
